Dental anxiety is far more common than people realise. For every patient who walks into a practice without a second thought, there's another who's been putting it off for months or years - sometimes even decades. If that sounds like you, you're not alone, and you're certainly not the first.
At Teamcare Dental Practice on Goldington Road, our calm, unhurried approach was built with nervous patients in mind. We take the time to listen, we go at your pace, and we never make you feel rushed, judged or embarrassed about how long it's been since your last visit. Plenty of our patients tell us, often emotionally, that this is the first time they've felt comfortable at a dentist - and that's something we take real pride in.
Whether your worry is about a specific procedure, the smell or sound of a dental practice, or you just don't know where to start, we'll meet you where you are. The first step is always the hardest, but you don't have to take it alone.

Choosing where to face your dental fears matters. Here's why patients across Bedfordshire trust us with theirs.
We've never made a patient feel bad for being nervous, for waiting too long, or for not having looked after their teeth perfectly.
You won't feel rushed. We take the time to explain everything, answer your questions and pause whenever you need.
Through a trusted outside agency, we offer IV sedation for patients who'd benefit from deeper relaxation during treatment.
Jess, our Treatment Coordinator, is your main point of contact - she'll talk you through everything before you even meet a dentist.
You don't have to come in for your first conversation. A quick call or video chat with Jess can break the ice from the comfort of home.
Our team has worked together for over twenty years. You'll see the same trusted faces visit after visit.
For patients who'd like more than a calm environment to help them through treatment, we offer IV sedation on request through a trusted outside agency. Sedation is available for nearly any treatment, although we use it most commonly for larger or longer cases - such as full mouth implants, complex procedures, or anyone who would simply feel much more comfortable being deeply relaxed during their appointment.
IV sedation - what it is: IV (intravenous) sedation is sometimes called "conscious sedation" or "twilight sedation". A medication is given through a small cannula in your hand or arm to put you in a deeply relaxed, drowsy state. You'll still be able to respond to instructions, but you'll feel calm throughout and may have very little memory of the appointment afterwards.
What sedation isn't: Sedation isn't the same as a general anaesthetic. You're not unconscious, and you're not on a ventilator. You're awake but deeply relaxed - and most patients describe the experience as much more pleasant than they expected.
Important to know: Sedation requires a separate assessment with the visiting sedationist beforehand, and you'll need someone to bring you home afterwards. We'll talk you through the practicalities at your initial appointment.

Sedation suits patients who feel that anxiety is genuinely going to stop them having the treatment they need - whether that's a routine check-up, a filling, an extraction, or more involved work like dental implants. It's especially worth considering for longer or more complex appointments, where staying calm for an extended period might feel daunting.
You don't have to decide now whether you want sedation. Many patients come in unsure and find that the calm environment alone is enough. Others find sedation gives them the breathing space they need to finally tackle treatment they've been avoiding for years. Both are completely valid - and we'll talk through your options honestly at your initial appointment.
If sedation isn't the right answer for you, we'll say so. We'll also talk through other supportive techniques like topical numbing, breathing exercises, headphones for music, and simply taking things in shorter sessions. There's almost always a way to make treatment manageable.

IV sedation is provided through a trusted outside agency, and pricing depends on the length of your appointment and the complexity of treatment. We'll give you a clear, written quote before anything is booked.
There's no rush, no pressure and no judgement - just a calm, unhurried welcome whenever you're ready. Book a no-commitment first appointment at Teamcare Dental Practice on Goldington Road, or speak to our Treatment Coordinator Jess by phone or video first if you'd prefer.
